- Primary Route: The entire journey is best done on the E01 Southern Expressway (Southern Expy). This modern highway takes you quickly and comfortably from the outskirts of Colombo deep into the Southern Province.
- Final Segment: After exiting the expressway, you will connect to the A2 (Galle Road or Matara Road) for the final scenic stretch along the coast, passing through Galle, Unawatuna, Weligama, and finally to Mirissa.
2. Travel Time
Travel time is efficient thanks to the expressway.
- Via E01 Southern Expressway:2.5 – 3.5 hours. This is the only recommended route for a direct transfer. The time can vary based on:
- Your exact pickup location in Colombo.
- Traffic on the connecting roads in Galle and Weligama.
- Time of day (weekends can be busier on the coastal stretch).
- Via A2 Coastal Road (Not Recommended): 4 – 6+ hours. This route is extremely slow, passing through every town and village with constant traffic. It is not suitable for a direct transfer.
Pro Tip: The expressway ends near Matara, but you will exit earlier, around the Galle/Ambalangoda exit, to join the coastal road. The final 30-45 minutes from the expressway exit to Mirissa is a beautiful coastal drive.
